What Ebola, HIV, and Zika Have in Common - 2016

What do the Ebola, HIV, and Zika viruses have in common with all thirty trillion cells in the human body? Selenium. Most viruses, at least all enveloped viruses contain and require selenium for their formation. The HIV Env envelope gene encodes a selenium protein. Thus, HIV and other enveloped viruses cannot be produced without selenium molecules. Where do viruses obtain their selenium? They acquire it by “stealing” it from human cells. As a result, they make cells sick and that makes people sick.             Selenium molecules constitute the active site of glutathione peroxidase, GPx, the universal antioxidant that helps keep every cell in the body clean, healthy and detoxified. That makes selenium nature’s strongest antioxidant. That also makes it an anti-inflammatory. While selenium is in every human and animal cell, also playing a structural role; this essent...

The Tuberculosis, HIV, and Selenium Feedback Loop

Image
Understanding the tuberculosis-HIV-selenium-deficiency positive feed-back loop is critical to fully understanding both tuberculosis and HIV disease.             HIV, tuberculosis, co-infection with hepatitis and other opportunistic infections; plus selenium nutritional deficiency, form a multi-focal positive feedback loop that increases inflammatory and oxidative damage as it concurrently depletes the body’s selenium supply. This results in a decline in both immune competence and the antioxidant defenses selenium supports. In his book What Really Causes AIDS Harold Foster described this phenomenon as it relates to HIV alone as, “The Selenium-CD4 Cell Tailspin”. Monique van Lettow titled her book, “ Triple Trouble: Tuberculosis, HIV Infection and Malnutrition ”. Bemnet Amare referred to this as, the “Quadruple burden of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Chronic Inte...

From HIV to Covid-19 and Beyond

Image
Monkeypox, HIV, SARS-CoV-2, Marburg, Ebola, Zika, H5N1. The viral attack against humanity is heating up with novel viruses emerging ever more rapidly. Unfortunately, humans keep failing to learn the lessons science tries to teach. That is why I wrote two books, Understanding Covid-19, How 500,000 American Lives Could Have Been Saved, and Dear Bill Gates, How to End Serial Pandemic Failure, HIV-1 to Covid-19.                                                                                                            The First People's AIDS March in Lusaka, Zambia, 2006           ...

Answers to Questions About Selenium and HIV

Image
What is selenium? Why is it essential for good health?             Selenium is a mineral found in the soil and in all plants, animals, and foods. It is essential to life. Selenium is in every cell of the body forming the active part of glutathione-peroxidase (GPx) the universal antioxidant that helps keep every cell healthy and detoxified. Nutritionists refer to selenium as an essential trace element. Although found in tiny amounts, it is essential to health. Selenium is concentrated in the cells and organs of the immune system and affects all aspects of immune function. When total selenium levels in the body fall to 80% of normal, a person has immune deficiency. When it falls below 70%, a person dies.            ...
